Eight temporary site-specific works installed on campus by artists whose work reflects their surroundings and enlivens the campus with color, whimsy, and surprise. This year's works center on the theme: Hidden Treasures.

2018 Artists:
SC Sculpture Walk Image DeLeon
The artist fabricated a series of monarch butterflies, resting in trees as if they have escaped from Pacific Science Center Butterfly House.

SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Laza
Lazo's sculpture features abstracted figures with outstretched arms atop unicycles.  The work evokes a sense of flight, of unity, and speaks to the notion of something bigger than the self.

SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Fetterman
The artist displays a series of vertebrae sculptures, comprised of steel frames and marine fabric, evoking a fragmented memory of a beast that lived a long time ago.

Dickinson's abstracted and inspired imagery depicting two faces graces the stairs leading to KeyArena.
Location: KeyArena East steps
SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Thomas
The artist worked with members of the transgender community in workshops to create imagery honoring notable trans elders and ancestors.

SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Robinson
The artist has installed giant, multi-colored strings of flags, inspired by a Korean quilt-making tradition, reusing discarded silk fabrics from clothing.

SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Wheelright
Wheelwright fashions aluminum mesh material into organic, cloud-like forms in a large-scale hanging sculpture that plays with shadow and light.

SC Sculpture Walk 2018 Williams
The artist has fabricated a giant tambourine, in which the public can interact, taking a symbol of African American vitality and rendering it on a huge scale.

  1. Eligibility: The Seattle Center and #iARTAlaska Presented by Alaska Airlines contest is open to legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Employees of Seattle Center and of Sponsor, their affiliates and subsidiaries, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such individuals, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win a prize. THE CONTEST IS VOID OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES, AND WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. The #iARTAlaska contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  2. Follow Alaska Airlines and Seattle Center on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and keep your eyes opened for photos featuring artworks that are a part of Seattle Center Sculpture Walk and the Poetry Garden Art Installation series.  Then come to Seattle Center, snap your photo or video of the art, including the hashtag #iARTAlaska and you’ll be eligible to win free air travel vouchers with Alaska Airlines!
  3. How to Enter:  Come to the Seattle Center Campus and take a photo of one of the nine (9) artworks featured in the of Seattle Center Sculpture Walk and the Poetry Garden Art Installation series. Upload your image to Instagram using the hashtag #iARTAlaska. Follow @AlaskaAirlines on Instagram.
  4. The Photo Contest will have a semi-final round. Each round will run from 4 to 6 weeks. The semi-final round will be judged by a Seattle Center panel. The winners of the semi-finals round will move forward to the final voting round. The final round will be based on the on the image that gets the most votes. 
  • Semi-final round 1 - Aug 13 – Sep 30 at 11:59pm PST – 4 winners

    • Semi-finalists will have one week to promote their images on social media. The image with the most votes at the end of the week wins the grand prize.
    • Submission process:  Each month users take a photo and post with #iARTAlaska to Instagram. Submissions will be collected for four to six weeks, depending on the semi-final round dates listed above. Semi-final round will be judged by a panel from Seattle Center. 
  • The subject of the photo must be one of the 9 artworks featured in the of Seattle Center Sculpture Walk and the Poetry Garden Art Installation series. The panel will be judging on the following criteria:
    • Originality – does the lighting, composition, and color balance, capture the essence of the original artwork?
    • Creativity - how was the Entrant was able to convey their idea, message, or thought in an original and imaginative way through their lens.
    • Overall Artistic Impression - was the subject matter displayed in the photo appropriate to the story being told in the Photo Entry? Does it represent the artist's theme? 
    • Composition - Does the photo draw you in? Does it have more than one center or interest or none at all? How was the Entrant able to use and control light? Was the lighting applied in the photo (manmade or natural) properly used to enhance the image?
    • Clarity and Quality of Submission – do the visual elements express the purpose or intent of the image. Does the photo draw the viewer in to look where the creator intended?
    • Wow! Factor - does the Photo Entry tell a story? What is the overall impression? What is the effect? Does the Photo Entry stand on its own, as complete and outstanding?
  • Finals: Four semi-final winners from each round, 12 photos total will move forward to the final round. 
Contest process:
  1. Seattle Center, the City of Seattle, Co-Sponsors, Administrator, and their respective parents, affiliates, divisions, and agencies and each of the foregoing entities’ respective employees, officers, directors, and agents are not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate receipt or transfer of entry information due to any cause, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data receipt, failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, or software or any combination thereof, inability to access websites, damage to a user’s computer system (hardware and software). Participants who submit inaccurate or incomplete entry may be excluded from participation in the prize drawing. All entries become the property of Seattle Center, a Department of the City of Seattle. Entries will not be used by the Seattle Center for commercial purposes, but are subject to disclosure under the Washington Public Records Act. Entrants agree to be bound by these rules and consent to use of their names in any and all media without further consideration.
  2. The judging will be conducted by the Seattle Center Judging Panel. Potential winners are subject to eligibility verification and compliance with these official rules. Seattle Center will notify the potential winners by email, or social media within One (1) day of the prize drawing. Potential winners will be required to authorize an affidavit of eligibility/release of liability within seven (7) days of issuance of notification. Failure to complete and return/transmit the authorization in the time noted, or if prize notification is undeliverable, will result in disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected and notified. Prize winners must be 18 years of age or older. Odds of winning a prize are subject to the total number of eligible entries received.
  3. Prize Packages: One (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive - Four (4) round-trip coach class air travel certificates to the Alaska Airlines destination of their choice.  The approximate retail value of the prize is $2,240 total.
Twelve (12) Semi-finalist will receive an Alaska Airline prize package containing prizes similar to: (prizes may vary) 
o Alaska Airlines Bluetooth Headphones – value $40
o Alaska Airlines Wireless Phone Charger – value $9.50
o Alaska Airlines Ombre Water Bottle - value $19.00
 Prizes will be available for pick-up at Seattle Center. Winners will be notified when items are available for pickup. 
Legal name, phone number and email address must be provided to claim the prize. Prize winner is responsible for all arrangements associated with attending. No prize substitution or transfer of prize permitted except at the sole discretion of Seattle Center. The winner is responsible for all taxes and other cost associated with prizes. 

8. Limitations of Liability: Each participant agrees (i) to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and the decisions of Seattle Center which are final and binding on all matters relating to this #iARTAlaska contest, and (ii) to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Seattle Center, the City of Seattle and Co-Sponsors from any & all claims, actions, and/or liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in and/or for entry into the #iARTAlaska contest, any related activities, or acceptance or use of any prize won.
Seattle Center reserves the right to disqualify from eligibility any photographs which, in its sole and absolute discretion, are offensive, sexually inappropriate, infringe the rights of any third party, expose it to legal liability, or would tend to harm the good name and reputation of Seattle Center.
By submitting your picture into this contest, you are expressly conveying to Seattle Center all image rights and copyright rights in #iARTAlaska contest and granting Seattle Center an express, worldwide, perpetual royalty-free license to use the picture and your image for its and its affiliates’ marketing, promotion and other commercial purposes.

9. General Conditions: If for any reason this #iARTAlaska contest is not capable of running as planned due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Seattle Center, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this contest, Seattle Center, the City of Seattle and the Co-Sponsors (Prize donors and SCF) reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. Should the #iARTAlaska contest be terminated, Seattle Center, the City of Seattle and Co-Sponsors reserve the right to select potential winner in a random drawing from among all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the action requiring such termination. Released Parties are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer system, server, or service providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any entry to be received by Seattle Center, the City of Seattle and Co-Sponsors because of technical problems, human error or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer equipment relating to or resulting from participation in this contest. In the event of a dispute as to who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the social media account submitted at the time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the person assigned to the social media account by Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
The travel authorization (certificate) is valid for flights served by Alaska Airlines, Horizon  Airlines and/or applicable Skywest Airlines flights. Mileage Plan Miles cannot be earned or credited. First Class paid upgrades or mileage plan upgrades are allowed. Connections are also allowed (subject to fare rules) First Bag Free for Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® Cardholders. See our checked baggage policy and flight schedules at for more details. Individual travel taxes may apply.  Once ticketed, fare rules apply regarding changes to the itinerary. The certificate is valid for one year from date of issue with no extensions permitted. Winner and guest must possess all necessary documentation required for air travel (e.g., a valid, government-issued driver’s license, U.S. passport, etc.).  The following black-out dates apply:  NOV 19-26, 2018 and DEC 18, 2018-JAN 2, 2019. The certificate is void if bartered or sold. If lost, the certificate may not be reissued.  Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes (or a portion thereof) of equal or greater value. No substitutions or transfers of prize(s) are permitted by the winner(s), except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. All taxes and all other costs associated with acceptance or use of the above prize(s) are the sole responsibility of the applicable winner. 
10. Winners List: the name of the winner will be available on the Seattle Center webpage, on or after Dec 13, 2018.
