Watch while the traditions of six West African countries come to life through live music, dance performances, exhibits, film, art, games and an African market. Take part in ritual and celebratory African drumming and dance and witness the healing powers of musicians trained since birth to serve their communities. The Spirit of West Africa - celebrating life through music, dance, art and culture. Presented by the Spirit of West Africa Committee.
COLORS: The colors of the West African countries of Guinea, Benin, Ghana and Togo are green, red and yellow. MOST POPULAR FOODS: Mafe or Tigadegena, a peanut stew with meat, is a common dish in many West African countries. Fufu, mashed yams, cassava or plantains served with soup or stews, is popular in Ghana, Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. GREATEST SOURCE OF CULTURAL PRIDE: The musical heritage of West African countries contributes a great sense of pride. West African hospitality is a cultural value, and the word for this hospitality and way of life in Senegal is "Teranga." LIVELIHOOD: The livelihoods in West African countries include music, fishing, farming and mining.
