A Bold Action Plan for Seattle Center’s Future

Seattle Center and the Seattle Center Foundation are partnering to develop a vision and action plan to ensure that Seattle Center remains a vibrant and welcoming community space for our community. The process began in the fall of 2024 with research and stakeholder engagement, best practices from cultural campuses from around the world, and will result in the development of a bold action plan for Seattle Center’s future.

Why Now?

Seattle Center and Its Partners Have New Needs and Opportunities

Seattle Center’s neighborhood has grown and diversified dramatically over the last 20 years. While visitor numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels, what the community wants in terms of programming is changing, as are the needs of campus partners. The diverse range of arts and cultural organizations at Seattle Center are facing unprecedented challenges coming out of the pandemic as audiences and markets have changed. Understanding these needs and developing new ways of funding and operating that respond to these changes it is essential to ensure a sustainable future for Seattle Center and its partners.

The Physical Campus Is Beloved but Is Showing Its Age

The 74-acre Seattle Center campus is hard-working but showing its age. With 10M+ annual visitors, it is the busiest public place in Seattle but building systems and public spaces are worn out and failing from chronic under-investment. Meeting ongoing maintenance needs is an increasing challenge as more and more funding goes into emergency repairs. Instead of chasing problems, Seattle Center has the opportunity to invest in a comprehensive renewal, creating a vibrant, green and sustainable campus for its next 100 years.

Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunities on the Horizon

The transformation of Memorial Stadium, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Celebration events, and a potential return of the Sonics are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for Seattle Center to reimagine itself and how it serves our community. Seattle Center must meet the moment to ensure a quality campus experience, great programs and customer service, and world-class, sustainable infrastructure to meet today’s needs.
