A Bold Action Plan for Seattle Center’s Future

Seattle Center and the Seattle Center Foundation are proud to release the Seattle Center Strategic Vision and 10-Year Action Plan—a strategic, community-informed roadmap to guide the campus into its next chapter.

With approximately 12 million visits annually, Seattle Center is the most visited arts, cultural, and entertainment destination in the Pacific Northwest—and one of the most iconic civic campuses in the country. This bold plan was shaped by nearly a year of research, public engagement, and best practices from cultural campuses around the world. It offers a clear vision for keeping Seattle Center vibrant, inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving needs of our city.

Why Now?

Seattle Center and its partners face new challenges and opportunities

Seattle Center’s surrounding neighborhood has grown and diversified dramatically over the past 20 years. Visitor numbers are also back to pre-pandemic levels—but the way people engage with public space, arts, and culture is changing. Meanwhile, our campus partners, especially nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, are navigating major challenges shaped by shifting audiences, financial pressures, and operational realities.

This plan responds to those needs with new models for partnership, funding, and operations —all aimed at supporting a sustainable and inclusive future.

A beloved campus that needs care

Seattle Center’s 74-acre campus is the busiest public place in Seattle. But with approximately 12 million visits annually, our infrastructure is aging and showing the strain. Years of underinvestment have led to growing maintenance backlogs, failing systems, and rising emergency repair costs.

The Strategic Vision and 10-Year Action Plan outlines a proactive path for campus-wide reinvestment—prioritizing sustainability, accessibility, and public use to prepare Seattle Center for its next 100 years.

Once-in-a-generation moments are ahead

Seattle Center is at a pivotal moment. With the redevelopment of Memorial Stadium underway, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Celebration on the horizon, the proximity to the recently opened Waterfront Park, and the potential return of the Sonics, now is the right time to reimagine how this civic and cultural hub can best serve Seattle’s future.

This plan helps Seattle Center meet the moment—with a clear path that will ensure Seattle Center is able to offer exceptional experiences, world-class programs and facilities, and a public space that reflects Seattle’s identity and aspirations for generations to come.
