New Report Shows Seattle Center Generates Nearly $3.3 Billion in Economic Impact, Supporting 19,400 Jobs

Nearly 12 million visits in 2024 generated more than $37 million in local tax revenue

SEATTLE, WA - THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 2026 - A new independent economic impact analysis shows that Seattle Center generated nearly $3.3 billion in total economic output in 2024, supporting 19,400 jobs and nearly $1.1 billion in labor income across King County —while also generating more than $37 million annually in local tax revenue, roughly double the City’s public investment.*

The study found that campus-related activity generated more than $37 million in local tax revenue for the City of Seattle.

“Seattle Center is more than a collection of venues,” said Randy Engstrom, Acting Director of Seattle Center. “It is a 74-acre civic ecosystem where arts, culture, sports, festivals, small businesses, and international events come together — fueling jobs, tourism, and long-term economic growth for Seattle and King County.”

Prepared by Community Attributes Inc., the report captures both direct activity on the Seattle Center campus and the broader ripple effects of that activity throughout the regional economy.

Key Findings* (Note: the categories below overlap and are not additive; see report for full methodology)

  • Nonprofit and related business activity: Including direct, indirect, and induced impacts, Seattle Center’s nonprofit operations and associated business activity in 2024 supported more than $1.0 billion in economic output, 5,350 jobs, and more than $386 million in total compensation across King County.
  • Direct business activity: Approximately $2.1 billion in direct business output, supporting 12,670 jobs and $650 million in labor income.
  • Total economic impact: Combined impacts across all activity generated nearly $3.3 billion in economic output throughout the region.

Visitor spending on lodging, transportation, food and beverage, retail, and recreation outside the Seattle Center campus continues to be a major driver of regional economic activity, underscoring the campus’s role as a catalyst for broader tourism and business growth.

Visitation and campus activities

Nearly 12 million people visited Seattle Center in 2024, including Climate Pledge Arena, which welcomed approximately 1.94 million visitors that year.

In 2025, the arena drew approximately 1.73 million visitors, further solidifying its role as a premier national touring venue.

Infrastructure and transportation

The report also highlights the Seattle Center Monorail as both a critical transportation infrastructure and an economic asset.

In 2025, the Monorail carried nearly 2.29 million riders- up 6.2% year over year-making it one of the highest ridership years on record, while generating approximately $6.7 million in fare revenue, supporting access, mobility, and event-driven visitation to the campus.

Fiscal Benefits to the City of Seattle

Seattle Center activity generated approximately:

  • $19.1 million in sales and use tax
  • $6.2 million in business and occupation (B&O) tax
  • $5.7 million in admissions tax
  • $4.5 million in property and leasehold tax
  • $1.2 million in commercial parking tax
  • $600,000 in utility taxes

Totaling more than $37 million in local tax revenue to the City of Seattle.

Seattle Center operates on about a $54 million annual budget. Roughly one-third comes from City funding, while the rest is generated through campus activities like events, leases, and partnerships.

“This report concretely demonstrates the significant public return on the private, public, and philanthropic investment that has occurred at Seattle Center,” said Rob Johnson, Executive Director of the Seattle Center Foundation. “Seattle Center is considered the cultural heart of our community, and this report reminds us that sports, arts, and culture are critical elements of a successful economy.”

Community Impact Report Shows Continued Strength into 2025

The Economic Impact Analysis measures total regional economic activity generated by Seattle Center and its partners, while the Community Impact Report reflects annual campus operations, programs, and attendance

In addition to the independent economic study, Seattle Center released its 2025 Community Impact Report, highlighting sustained visitation, strong regional engagement, and continued cultural activation.

Seattle Center welcomed 11.3 million visitors in 2025, contributing to more than 20 million combined civic visits with Waterfront Park and reinforcing its role as the Pacific Northwest’s most visited arts and cultural destination.

Visitors spent an average of 145 minutes on campus, while Seattle Center’s network of partner organizations delivered more than $2.8 million in public benefits annually, including free and reduced programming.

Seattle Center is also advancing major capital projects, including the redevelopment of Memorial Stadium and Monorail station improvements, further strengthening long-term community access and impact.

Visitation in 2025 remained relatively stable year-over-year, with modest shifts in visitor behavior, including increased transit use and slightly lower per-capita spending across food, beverage, and parking.
