Intersections: Soul, Jazz & Hip Hop Across the Generations

Intersections: Soul, Jazz & Hip Hop Across the Generations features Grammy-nominated Jazz artist Nathan Breedlove, nephew B-Boy Fidget, and brother Ted Sharpe with the award-winning Global Heat band.  The show takes you on a journey from the classic Jazz Hip Hop of A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Guru, and more; to the soulful sounds of Jill Scott and Erykah Badu; to present day fusion of Kendrick LaMar, Jon Batiste, and ensemble originals.

The show features family members who have had their own careers and now come together with original tunes and old favorites:
• Nathan Breedlove:  Grammy-nominated Jazz trumpet player and composer, member of the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame, and a former member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and other top ensembles.
• B-boy Fidget (aka Marcus Sharpe):  A beatmaker, rapper, and dancer, B-boy Fidget brings insights into the emergence of Hip-Hop and its connections to Soul Music and African-American culture.
• Ted Sharpe:  A conga player formerly with the Caribbean All-Stars band in Seattle.
• Global Heat:  With funky beats, heart-felt vocals, and positive vibes, Global Heat has been called “Truly remarkable and wonderful” [Joyce Taylor, NBC News, Seattle] and “High-caliber” [Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, Reno].

This special ensemble comes together to celebrate cross-cultural and cross-generational artistic collaboration as part of the mission of the nonprofit performing arts organization  Global Artists Collective.

Artists At the Center is a multi-year collaboration between Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and Seattle Center, with support from Uptown Arts & Culture Coalition and the communities adjacent to Seattle Center campus. The project is made possible by a 10-year grant from Climate Pledge Arena and Seattle Kraken.

Join us as we introduce emerging and established artists and celebrate their talent on Seattle Center campus. Artists are given a performance opportunity, allowing them to connect with new audiences, display their talents and advance their careers. Visitors to campus and the surrounding neighborhood benefit from surprising and delightful pop-up performances throughout the year. Each year, artists are selected with an equity and social justice lens, ensuring equitable representation for underserved and emerging artists. Artistic genres include music, dance, theater, demonstrations, and multi-disciplinary work.
