ARMORY BALCONY – FESTA ITALIANA ART SHOW: IMAGES OF BAGNOREGIO (ALL-DAY)

  • Gregg Krogstad, a Seattle-based architectural photographer, was recently awarded a fellowship by the Civita Institute to spend a month in Civita Di Bagnoregio to explore the photographic possibilities of the famous medieval Italian hilltown – a favorite of Rick Steves– and its neighboring cities and small villages. The photographs on display at Festa Italiana are a selection of images from this recent trip, and other photographs from past visits to Italy.
  • Besides shooting with a conventional modern camera, Mr. Krogstad enjoys working with an antique pinhole camera using large format black and white film.
The pinhole camera has no lens or viewfinder and only a hand operated shutter, so each exposure is a game of chance, an educated guess. Any of the images on display that are black-and-white will have been made with this fascinating primitive device.
